Affies waterpolo going from strength to strength
This past weekend the Affies girls’ water polo team proudly represented our school during the Inspired Cup at Reddam Bedfordview.
The tournament provided the team a valuable opportunity to test their skills and teamwork against some of the country’s top teams, despite having only one year’s experience in water polo. With courage and determination, they tackled every game and gave their best.
In the group stage, the team showed brave resistance against strong opponents. They suffered a 10-3 defeat to runners-up, Woodridge, but came up with determination against teams like St Mary’s Kloof, Parktown, Reddam Helderfontein and Roedean. They also achieved a draw of 5-5 against St Peters.
In the playoffs, however, our girls showed their true character. They beat St Mary’s Waverley with a convincing score of 8-4 and on the final day of the tournament, they defeated St Peters with an overwhelming 9-1, only a day after playing a draw against that team. These results reflect the team’s growth, determination and hard work. The team finished 9th out of 13 teams.
The Affies water polo team are inspirational and determined to win the tournament next year and secure a place in the St Stithians Stayers tournament, the largest water polo event in the country. We are incredibly proud of each player and look forward with excitement to their future achievements.
